Mark Robertson trained as an actor in Edinburgh, and spent fifteen years treading the boards in rep, touring productions, pantos and West End musicals. Since turning to writing full time in 2001, Mark has written extensively for UK children’s television, including animation scripts for Dennis the Menace (Red Kite) and Aardman Animation’s Chop-Socky Chooks, as well as many sit-com scripts for shows such as Barking (Granada), My Spy Family (Kindle) and Bear Behaving Badly (Darrall MacQueen).
Mark’s Scottish musical comedy Marrying Meg has been a finalist in several prestigious national competitions, and was the only UK show to be chosen for the 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival. His sci-fi action screenplay Tin Man secured development money in the form of a EuroPaws bursary, and his adult light entertainment show Club Sandwich is currently in late stage development with Aardman and the BBC.
At present, Mark is developing two feature scripts: Desperate Dan Must Die is a wartime action comedy about a Nazi plan to assassinate the staff of The Beano; while Last Night in Wonderland is a musical drama set in the forgotten world of all-juvenile Victorian theatre.
