Innis is a graduate of the producing course at the National Film & Television School, having previously worked in finance for a number of leading institutional banks.  During his time at the NFTS he produced One in Four (dir. Matti Harju), which premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2008 before screening at Locarno, Karlovy Vary and Clermont Ferrand, and the animation short Bill's Visitors (dir. Simon Deshon), which played at over 30 international festivals including Edinburgh, Hiroshima, Los Angeles and Houston, won three awards and was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA.

Since graduating in 2008, Innis has has set up his own production company, Treasure Box Pictures, in Edinburgh where he is based. He is currently independently developing a varied slate of fiction and documentary films in conjunction with new and emerging talent. One such project is Beating the Drum, written by Stewart Thomson (Guiding Lights 3 participant) and executive produced by Brian Ward (writer of The Interpreter, Death Defying Acts). Based on the true story of the establishment of the Drumchapel Table Tennis club during the 1980's, the screenplay is currently in development with BBC Films. Another project is Lustre, the story of two fourteen year old years who play a game of dares that over the course of a night escalates out of control, written by NFTS graduate Mahalia Rimmer and in development with Vertigo Films.

In addition to his own slate, Innis is also working on a number of animation projects with Oscar-winning producer Alan Dewhurst.
