Originally from Germany, Eva Weber is a London-based director working in both documentary and fiction. Eva has directed many award-winning short documentaries including The Intimacy of Strangers which premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival and has screened at over 50 festivals worldwide. Building on its success, Eva then directed City of Cranes for Channel 4. Described as “stunningly poetic”, the film won, amongst others, the Award for Best Documentary Short at Los Angeles Film Festival.
In 2008, Eva directed the short film Steel Homes for the Scottish Documentary Institute which premiered at IDFA 2008 and received its North American premiere at Sundance in January 2009. Other festival screenings include, Hot Docs, IDFA, Chicago International Film Festival and Silverdocs.
Eva completed the 27-minute film The Solitary Life of Cranes in 2009, a companion piece and follow-up to City of Cranes. Part city symphony part visual poem, the film has won numerous awards at festivals around the world, and was nominated for the International Documentary Association’s Distinguished Short Award 2009. Described as “one of the most absorbing documentaries of the year” by The Observer newspaper, the film was selected as one of the top five films of the year by critic Nick Bradshaw in Sight & Sound’s annual film review.
Eva is currently developing the feature-length documentary Life in Transit with the assistance of the UKFC/BFI and MEDIA Programme of the European Union. She has also recently received a PUMA Creative Catalyst Award (working in partnership with BRITDOC) for her film Black Out.
